Here's a niffty, educational and skill building game you can have your little swimmers play during their swimming lesson.

If you are like me and want your swimmers to focus on their learning, I always leave the games like this one for the end of the class.

It gives me leverage for those 'over enthusiastic' and 'less motivate' swimmers

What you will need:

Laminated A3 Shark picture

Fish sink toys

Small butterfly net

Kickboard

Stick on velcro

How to make it:

1 Cut a hole in your kickboard to match the size of your butterfly net

2. Cut out and laminate your shark picture (I bought a shark picture laser print on silk from ebay)

3. Cut away the laminate around the teeth. Soften any hard plastic edges so little hands don't get scratched

4. Apply stick on velcro to matching back of shark print and kickboard

5. Place net over hole in kickboard then attach shark pic over the kickboard making sure the velcro lines up

And you're done!!

There are a multitude of swimming skills your little swimmers will learn from this game:

Breath control: throw the fish in one by one and watch them swim to the bottom of the pool

Submerging: after the fishies reach the pool floor send your swimmers down to retrieve them and have them kick back to the shark to feed them to him. You can take the net out of the shark's mouth for this one and send the kids back down to retrieve the fish. Totally up to you :)

Floating: place the fish on the shark and have your swimmers float holding the kick board; they will have to remain still to balance the fish on the shark.

Kicking: as above, the goal is to keep the fish balanced on the kickboard while your swimmers kick either on their back or their front.

Quick tip: the board is better balanced if the swimmers are encouraged to stretch their arms out straight when holding the kickboard and kicking :)
